Does anyone else ever find it disappointing to see posters for an art show/reception that is poorly designed and, frankly, somewhat ugly?

I think it is especially important to have a well-designed poster for something like this if you are going into visual arts. I am turned off by poor designs in this case moreso simply because I will assume that the artwork that will be presented will not be very well thought out either. As an artist, I would want to have a beautifully polished-looking poster. I do not want tacky fonts or ill-placed images. Everything should either be crisp and clear, of wonderfully interesting, with text well-integrated into the image. I don't want things to look slapped together. This does not send across a message of "My art will be good".

It just confuses me when I know there are very good artists who make really poorly designed posters :\

I like black humour and this movie was certainly original in its concept and interesting. It was more of a meditation on traditions and the concept of Halloween rather than a straight out horror. Anyway, I enjoyed it, although, there were some gory bits. There are funny twists.

Sometimes I get scared that I can't enjoy fantasy novels anymore. I think that's why I keep putting it off and off and off... I don't know. I just don't like change, I suppose.

I have a strange addiction to looking at YA novel book blogs and I keep wanting to read some YA fantasy novels, but I am unsure where to start because either the book sounds too cliche or it just sounds uninteresting.

So instead of my usual fantasy book request, I am wondering if anyone has any YA fantasy suggestions?
I just thought I would post of lovely pictures by Peter Doig. He's a British painter and everything he paints is dripping with magic.

I have this as my wallpaper right now.

I am also fascinated by the work of Thomas Nozkowski after a recent NAGC exhibit.

I can't find the ones I really like from the exhibit online anywhere. Or perhaps the ones I like just look better in person.

And here are a few Foujitas

This always reminds me of that Degas painting... Only serene and less I am drowning in alcohol.

I love, love, love this.

Oh, that second Foujita reminds me of this Picasso painting. I am not a huge Cubist enthusiast, but I love this pre-cubism Picasso called The Bathers:

I wish I could find better pictures. Especially Peter Doig's Grand Riviere (the last Doig with the horse and the boat in the night scene - it is at the NAGC and it is beautiful), but alas.

(on a totally unrelated note: I am so tired of seeing the Vonnegut quote "Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt". It is simply everywhere and is getting annoying seeing so many tumblr posts with that...)

In addition:

It is always good to open your mind to another person's perspective even if you do not fully agree with them or even agree with them at all. This lets you appreciate different things in life and kind of have a rebirth, finding a whole new fascination in something.

In this case, I am speaking more about art, fashion and the like, but you know, I definitely believe in being open-minded and respecting another person's opinion as long as it's not a hateful one.

Oh, I am rather cheesy.

I don't know why I'm not asleep yet.
Late night realizations:

+ Fashion should be fun. We should play dress-up every day.

+ We don't always have to dress up as the same thing.

+ The library has Barbarella. I love my library.

+ Also, on the note of fashion being fun, I am totally lusting after 60s style fringed and poofy (fake) fur vests.

+ I usually do not want to buy shoes at all, but I just wish I owned a billion pairs of low heel/flat oxford style shoes! And perhaps some spats.
